Research Interests:

In my choreographic and teaching work I seeks to expand the relevance and experience of contemporary dance and theater. I envision a comprehensive theatrical art form that approximates how the mind perceives reality (true or imagined), including the chaos inherent in our contemporary existence.  By re-thinking the traditional division of labor between visual artists, activists, musicians, media-makers and performers, I strive to create a new cinematic-like language that merges movement, music, symbolism, images and narrative, giving an expression to the human experience and condition.

Research Summary:

I created more than 78 original works of choreography and theater for my dance company and for numerous modern and ballet companies across the US and the world.  My goal in making my work is to set up the structures in such a clear and concise way (no matter what is the subject matter), that the elements can begin to interact, to play and to live within the structure, frame and focus that I have decided to set out and test.  I am somewhat like a scientist that way, I think that the beauty of great art and great science and great teaching  is to set up the structures so well and in such economy, that life can begin to take place within them, to provide the space for life to begin.
