School of Music Audition Application

Thank you for your interest in the School of Music at the University of Florida.

Please take the time to review all the questions before starting the registration process.

This is an application for the School of Music as a music major, minor, and/or for music scholarship consideration. An instructor recommendation form must also be submitted to the Music admissions office prior to your audition.


Please complete the requested information and submit your School of Music application by November 1, 2013.

All incoming freshman regardless of their intent within the School of Music (major or minor) must take a Theory Placement Test PRIOR to their selected audition date. This is a timed test (50 minutes) and requires speakers. Please do not guess your answers as this may negatively affect your placement. Students are required to submit the test by November 31, 2013 so that the scores are available prior to the auditions.

Undergaduate Curricula

Bachelor of Music

Programs of study are available in performance: keyboard (piano, organ, harpsichord), voice, wind, percussion and strings; theory; and music in combination with an outside field. The curricula is intended for students who plan to enter professional careers, graduate study, private studio teaching or college/university-level teaching.

Bachelor of Music in Education

The School of Music prepares music education students to become accomplished music teachers. The music education faculty is nationally and internationally recognized as leaders and teachers. This curriculum fulfills the education requirements for Florida teaching certification in grades K-12 as well as other states' certification requirements and is approved by the Florida Department of Education, National Association of Schools of Music and the National Council for Teacher Education.

Bachelor of Arts

The B.A. curriculum is designed for students who desire a liberal arts education with an emphasis in music. Programs are available in music performance, music history or music theory/composition.

Music Minor

The Music minor programs are offered to those students with interests in the field of music, but who do not wish to pursue a full undergraduate degree in the area. To obtain a music minor, students complete an average of 18 credit hours. Music minor students also benefit from using the School of Music facilities, including practice rooms.
